The German Emigration Center Now Also Presents 300 Years of Immigration History

How do emigrants become immigrants? How do they settle in a new home country? And how do the children of immigrants and subsequent generations fare? As of 22 April 2012, the German Emigration Center in Bremerhaven provides answers to these and many other questions. With the opening of its major extension focusing on 300 years of immigration history the museum, founded in 2005, has now become the first migration museum in Germany, and in Europe

„Traveling Fares“ – Children create „Immigration Recipes“

Special exhibition to the nationwide contest with GEOlino from November 25, 2012 until January 31, 2013 in the German Emigration Center Bremerhaven

An exhibition that can be tasted? The new special exhibition "Traveling Fares" which is being shown in the German Emigration Center from November 25, 2012 until January 31, 2013, can do just that. The presentation in the museum's restaurant „Speisesaal Steak & Fish“ is the result of the fifth children's contest which has been jointly organized by the theme museum and the children magazine GEOlino.

Special Exhibition: September 30, 2013 – March 2, 2014

In the 1850s, the passage from Bremerhaven to Australia for sailing vessels averaged fifteen long weeks. By 1851, passengers, who undertook the difficult voyage, were mainly young men tempted by the gold finds in Australia.
